To ensure transparency and combat odometer fraud (mileage tampering), a strict digital verification process is now applied to used vehicles imported from Italy. This check is based on cross-referencing the information provided in the physical documents with the official records stored in the Italian Ministry of Transport's database. How is the digital check performed? Vehicle Inspection Stations (KTEO) and Transport Departments use the official portal "Il portale dell'Automobilista" by following these steps: Service Selection: The field "Verifica Ultima Revisione" (Verify Last Technical Inspection) is selected on the website. Data Entry: Vehicle Type: "Autoveicolo" (Passenger Vehicle) is selected. License Plate: The Italian license plate number (Targa) is typed using Latin characters. Results: The application displays the date of the last inspection in Italy, the result (e.g., "Regolare" - Successful), and most importantly, the number of kilometers recorded by the Italian inspector at that time. What happens if a discrepancy is found? If the mileage shown in the electronic application is higher than what is written on the Italian registration or the technical inspection certificate, the consequences are as follows: Registration Ban: The vehicle is not permitted to be registered in Greece due to tampering. Document Marking: The inspection sticker on the Italian registration (if one exists) is crossed out and marked with the word "TAMPERED" Official Remark: A formal observation is placed on the Italian Technical Inspection Certificate: "The vehicle is not registered due to tampering with the number of kilometers," followed by an official stamp and signature. When is the original Certificate not required? If the online check results in an absolute match of the mileage, the Italian Technical Inspection Certificate may be accepted as a simple photocopy . In this specific case, submitting the original document or a certified copy is not necessary.
